P.S. I see a new French Dictionary has been published called Jewell's Spiers' French Dictionary at the same price as Spiers & Surenne's. If Mr. Gutherie has this book and it is pronouncing you may send it. if not send the other. I will not be surprised if Mr. G. should not have the Companion to Ollendorff's French Grammar but you needn't defer shipping the box to get it as I can have it sent by mail afterward plenty soon enough to answer my purpose only I thought them safer to have them sent in the box Mr.Gutherie used to get subscribers for the New York Saturday Evening Post: if he does so now I wish you would get him to have the paper sent to me. I have a beaver muffler and cap made which will make these cold cutting winds more bearable This morning the thermometer is -20 and very fortunate it is that I don't have to be outdoors any; the wind such a day cuts like a sharp knife. It is said that the frontiersmen stand cold so well. The fact is this they put on 3 or 4 wollen shirts 2 or 3 pair drawers or two pair of pants. 2 or 3 pair socks and buffalo mogasins a fur cap and a blanket or buffalo overcoat with a hood. The simple fact is the cold can't reach to where the man is. John.
