University of Michigan, DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE, LITERATURE AND THE ARTS, Ann Arbor, Sep 25th. 1869 Oct 16th. Dear Mother, Yours of the 8th. was received in due time with twenty dollars ($20.00) You seem to have had some fears about my cloth and self from what you read in the Herrald you may now dissmiss all fears, for we have had the last anual rush for this college year which took place Yesterday morning directly after chapel exercises. The first rush or the effects of the first are effectually & fully repaid. The Sophomores had just recieved their class cap and this year as on all previous years the Sophomores have been rushed by the Freshmen on the first appearence of the caps. Three or four of the Freshmen got above the chapel entrance and dusted flour upon their pride, their caps. We had a rush lasting some less than two hours in which the Freshmen were fairly victorious
