University of Michigan, DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE, LITERATURE AND THE ARTS, Ann Arbor, Oct 2d. 1869 Dear Mother, I received your letter the first of the week; but I did not find time to answer it until the welcome saturdy, came on its rapid round, telling me that I had been two weeks at Ann Arbor; and over a month away from home. Absent from all those endeared objects which affection binds up in the thought of home. I was very glad indeed to have news from home. your letter was very welcome; and annother would have the same attention. Mary may take this hint if she is not too busy. I was in hopes that Mary would have written and told me why B. B. Viets did not come to Ann Arbor to renew his studies. Has he given up comeing? I have entered as I told
