my engineering studies I have daily practice in the use of the Transit, Theodolite, Solar Compass, Common Compass, Level, rod, chain, tape, &c. There was over two hundred applicants for admittince into the Freshman class this year about 150 were admitted 10 Ladies, 18 Ladies were admitted into the Medical and Pharmacetical Departments and one or so in the Law department. We have had a game of foot ball and two games of base ball with the Fresh We were victorious each time. The Freshman got into the bad habit of "horning" (tooting brass horns) at the Professors whom they did not like &c &c and we Sophs thought we would chastise them so two successive[le?] nights we dispearsed the maroders catching some and pumping them.
