Camp Sept 3d/62 My dear Wife We reached camp in due time & were marched into barracks that had no straw in bunks. Nothing to eat. We got our rations after dark & cooked them meat potatoes & coffee [?] Bakers Bread & eat them by moonlight at 9 oclock in our hands we had no table [?]. Last night we slept in our bunk (Jo. Schlabach [name] Johnson & I) on the soft side of a board. To day we got straw good & clean, & made up a purse & bought lumber for table, broom axs etc [?] generally & I guess we will get along [?] I hope soon I have drilled 5 hours to day was down town an hour or so Now my dear keep up your spirits. dont get the blues Ill take the best care of myself I can
