Floating Hospital "Nashville" May 25/63 My Dear Wife, Nothing occurred on the Sabbath afternoon out of the general routine. I lounged on my bed fanning myself and reading by turns towards evening Miss Miller came in and sat down for a chat. She is a very fine woman, sensible, homely face, but a fine figure, good talker, and well informed. Every inch a lady. She has charge of the sanitary supplies for the sick and the linen (sheets, pillow slips) But dont you be jealous of her, for though I think her a fine woman, I love only my own Harriet, Well Sabbath day & evening there was no firing. The troops rested, but on Monday (today) morning we could hear the booming of cannon again, which is kept up all day, 26th Firing still plainly to be heard, even the musketry, though not so fast. It is said Grant is sinking a drift under their breast work with the intention of blowing them up We are met at last, on the last of their works, with a wall 15 feet high and a wide ditch outside, that is what
