To Make Wash Balls Take 1 1/4 lb of hard Soap 1/2 lb of Sented powder a gill of Spirits of Wine a Dram of Camphire a gram of Musk Melt the Soap & mix them altogether when Cold make up your Balls To Make Beef Alamode Take a Rand of Beef Lard it wt Salt Pork Stuff it with Balls made of Beef chop'd fine, an equal Quantity of Beef Suet Season'd wt Salt & Thyme, sweet margoram Pasly Nutmegg & mace, Stick cloves in the Beef [secure?] it well Strew Shred onion over it & then put it into a Frying Pan wt a piece of Beef Dripping, brown it on each side, then put it into a pot wt water enough to cover it. put in a pint of Strong malt Beer, make it Boyl, take off the Pot put it over a gentle fire & let it Stew take out 1/2 pint of the Liquor put it in a has Pan wt about a pound of fresh Beef season it wt Shred onion, pepper Salt Mace Thyme, & Marjoram take a Lump of Bump, rowl it in Flowrs & thicken the gravy with it garnish ye Dish wt tosted Bread
