Then wash it off with a sponge & plenty of cold water. This will remove all smoke, or dirt from chimney pieces. Salve for Sore Throats: 3 oz of butter newly churned & unsalted. 1 oz of yellow bees' wax sliced thin, 4 oz of mutton suet rendered, 4 oz of powdered resin. Put the butter, suet & wax into an earthen pipkin or jar over the fire, & when melted, stir in the resin & blend all well together. Then pour it into small pots. It will keep a long time.
