Journal Entry 5

is covered by 35 feet of water at High tide and not more than 10 at low at 7 P.M. We soon passed the Bell buoy and various lights and anchored in the Mersey opposite Liverpool. The 'Artie' came up the harbor with us, and our other companions from New York arrived at about the same time we did, except the Dreadnaught which was out but 15 days, whereas the rest of us were almost 30. Monday morning we docked & Tuesday found us a berth. Farewell to the "City of Brooklyn"!  No more shall I watch the sailors as they tar your rigging, mend your sails, holy stone your decks. No more shall I listen to  "My Johnny Bull" and "Alonzo was no sailor", mingling with the increasing breeze, as we took in sail. Yet though I leave you, good ship, you shall never be forgotten. May God who rules the universe protect all who tread your decks and save. you from an ocean grave!
