1 c. dates cut up 1 c. hot water 1/2 c. shortening 1 c. sugar. 1 heaping teaspoon cocoa. 2 eggs, beaten. 1 teas vanilla 1 3/4 c. flour 1 teas soda 1-6 oz. pkg choc chips. 1/2 c. nuts. Let dates stand in boiling water while mixing cake batter. Cream shortening add sugar cocoa eggs and vanilla and beat well add dates and hot water mixture
