Sunday August 20th 1916 Still very warm. I wrote four letters today and slept awhile in afternoon. Hattie called me jist about four oclock and they came to take me to ride. We had supper and sat on the porch. We were greatly shocked and surprised to know Mrs Jones went to the hospital tonight. Monday August 21st 1916 I was busy most of the forenoon cleaning silver and arranging my dishes &c. I slept some in afternoon. Did fancy work. Mrs Jones operated on at 5:30 for a tumor. She came through it in good form. 20 minutes on the table. Tuesday August 22nd 1916 It was cooler today. The Whetstones went to Burlington today for the Forney girls. I swept and cleaned the whole house and di a little mending. Will about home. Wednesday August 23rd 1916 We washed some in morning and both went down at 1:15; I to the depot to see about trains west. Will took me over to Hatties with Robs horse & buggy and then went to the West Farm. stopping for me on the way back. I got some things in town and we came home at 5:30 Thursday August 24th 1916 Will went down to Robs for dinner when he brought his Mother and the girls out. he was going to Williamsburg to a fair with the folks on the hill. Will got home at a little after six in time for supper. The girls did not go home till 8:30. We had a pleasant days visit.
