Sunday August 5th 1917 There was a nice shower in the forenoon that would lay the dust. I felt able to do some cooking in the forenoon. I slept a couple of hours in afternoon. When I got up Ott was here. After supper I wrote a letter to Nellie. My throat has felt better today. Monday August 6th 1917 I washed a few pieces this morning. I had a good long letter from Lydia. Vene had a nice trip home. Edith met her in Peoria. The Whetstones went to Amana today. I slept all afternoon. We spent the evening on the porch. Tuesday August 7th 1917 I washed a few more things this morning and put them to soak. The folks dome home are busy entertaining the Whetstone cousins and Blanch Jellison. I wrote a letter to Fannie. Slept all afternoon. Evening on the porch. Wednesday August 8th 1917 Will worked some in the garden. We now have green corn and tomatoes. I put the clothes on the line. I work a little on my spread but slept most of the afternoon. my throat still hurts and I do not gain much strength. Thursday August 9th 1917 I ironed the things and went down to the store. was very tired. I got dinner and wrote to Ida and Lydia. Will took the letters down tone at 4:15 and to get some things for the table. I had gone to rest before he went. I got the supper and we were on the porch till late.
