Wonder why my folks voted for Hoover in 1932? Was he advancing any of the social & econ. remedies promulgated by Roosevelt? Was it a recalcitrant Congress which hamstrung him?
Why did Roosevelt torpedo the London Econ. Conf. in 1933? What were its prospects for inter-national co-operation & gain?
Heretofore, Am. political parties have automatically taken diametrically opposite views and the country has managed to progress regardless. This can no longer be true. In this respect W. Wilkie has shown himself a man of much stature & character.
Great majority of our political & economic troubles arise from a lack of candor in our leaders. They try to be too smooth & adroit. They put partisan advantage above conviction.
Without self respect there can be no character.
