Saving...
"restless as the sea" I am learning once again to read leisurely, with patience and thoughtfulness. Frank - small, snub-nosed - neat, correct, formal, adherent of discipline in small things, accustomed to a certain deference from his associates. The recent meeting of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (except for pres. Eric Johnson) expressed satisfaction with the goal of "fairly constant employment" after the war, stating that full employment is possible only in a slave state. They had better devise some way to get full employment in their business system or it will never last. Max. production & full emp. can be had & some ways must be found short of totalitarian measures. It is not enough for the privileged to treat the less fortunate, or the whites to treat the colored people, with kindly tolerance and indulgent paternalism. All people of whatever creed, nationality, or color must be accorded equal dignity and human worth. Both Christianity & true democracy demand this fundamental acknowledgment. Social & economic & racial inequities cannot be solved in a moment & in some respects it is best that we make haste slowly, but this truth is basic and is the starting point & foundation on which to build.
