Saving...
What is so rare as a really good competitor who is unselfish. 5/15-Saturday. At 2:30 PM we were 120 miles north by east of Barbados. "enlightened selfishness" "Let me designate the heroes of a nation and I care not who writes its Constitution" - Thurman Arnold. 5/16 - Sunday. Test run for ship up to 30 knots to note vibration. Mucky day, low ceiling, frequent rain squalls. OS2U came out to meet us. Entered Gulf of Paria, bet. Trinidad & Venezuela, through northern entrance (Dragons Mouth). Anchored around 2:30 PM. 5/17 - Mon. Group tactics - S.B.D. cowling ripped off in dive. 5" batteries on ship fired at sleeve towed by PBY in afternoon - very accurate. Officers bunk room - 2500 cu ft less space than minimum condition permitted for prisoners in brig. Beautiful night - full moon - distant lights on shore - light clouds - stars, etc.
