Saving...
5/26 - Wed. Tonite at supper met a young officer of the British fleet Air Arm who was observing aboard. He was from N. Zealand & knew Neville Turnbull - a pleasant coincidence. A letter from Pettit says Hobbs is on his way back to the States - sure would like to see him before heading for the Pacific. Enich is now a captain. 5/27 - Thursday If you cannot meet the moral demands of abstinence and continence, then for goodness sake at least be temperate, discriminating, discreet - be civilized. May there not come a time when economic security will become as an integral part of our Bill of Rights as pers security. Of course it will mean that there must be max. production and that each man shall receive according to his work & merit. Such guarantees can never spring from the logic of biology and anthropology but only from a high sense of justice, common brotherhood, and human dignity "tarfu" given a social need plus a respectable symbol, and the means, whatever they are, will be readily countenanced. "waste" of gov't vs "efficiency" of private organizations
