Thursday - Mar. 5 Rain and lots of it, again this morning. If this is the sunny south, I pass. Carburetors & magnetos occupied part of our time in ground school today - two little mechanisms which are supposedly simple in theory but rather intricate when completely analyzed. What a course this meteorology is - looks like a study in hieroglyphics there are so many symbols for different states of weather & visibility. Had my picture taken for the Flight Jacket today, all decked out in white. Hope it turns out well, and I shall have some prints made up for the folks. The war picture grows more grim. Valiant is the stand being made in Java, but courage is not going to be enough it appears. Where is the Japanese advance going to be checked - Australia, India,? Certainly these two places are next in order for attack. All this talk in recent years of Hitler's plan to march around the oceans & join hands with Japan was not just idle speculation.
