Monday - March 9 This week we are studying airplane performance, radio, materials, accessories, aerology, and test stand observation. Will have to study a little more this week. All of sudden the baseball team begins to look pretty good. Several boys who played last year, mostly enlisted men, are now out. Shouldn't be surprised if we had a pretty good outfit. Last year's catcher, out for the first time, impressed me as being plenty good. Expect I'll have to make the grade at some other position. Don't seem to mind the prospect particularly - does that mean I've lost my competitive urge? Well, not necessarily, I guess. Its just a matter how much effort baseball is worth at this stage of the game. Its somewhat of a relief to feel it isn't imperative to do my utmost every minute I'm out on the field. I never want to work as hard at athletics again as I did in the fall of 1939. It paid dividends & was a great experience - but never again.
