should be, but, nonetheless, it is a change, nay, even a letdown. Happily, I didn't have to make a real abrupt adjustment. The curtain has come down rather slowly - the eclipse wasn't immediate or total. Wednesday - March 11 A young 2d lieutenant in the Marine Corps stopped me today and introduced himself as John Howard, saying he used to room right across the hall from me at the Quad. Didn't recall him but was glad to meet anyone from Iowa. His mother is living with him at Warrington, a little jerkwater station between the base and town. He asked if I would like to come out for dinner some weekend to which I replied in the affirmative. Sure would be nice if he knew some nice girls around here. Am getting a bit lonely for that sort of thing. The football coach here at the station was sounding me for out next fall this afternoon. Said they had a fine schedule lined up, might even play Purdue. He wanted to know how I would like to stay around here as
