Saving...
for the courage & staying power of the Russian armies. I hope they have what it takes come spring. Friday - March 27 Rain spoiled our game with Alabama, but, weather permitting, we'll play tomorrow. Studied awhile for my final tests in ground school before starting to fly. Joe Louis knocked out Abe Simon in the sixth tonight. The proceeds were to go for a service benefit fund. Joe was "fighting for nothing by my country" as he put it. He is one of my favorite athletes, and a truly great champion in my mind. He takes them all on anywhere, anytime. They can talk all they want about the the old timers, about the lack of good opposition, but I still think he is one of the best fighters who ever drew on a glove. But even more to his credit is the way he has conducted himself as champion. He has remained quiet and courteous throughout it all - no braggadocio, no alibis. Truly he has been a credit to the fighting game and to a downtrodden race. Good for him!
