read through Steinbeck's short novel "The Moon is Down." Enjoyed it very much - it is pleasantly written and presents a theme that stirs the soul of any man, to wit, a free people cannot be permanently conquered. Easter Sunday - significant day, beautiful, warm weather. Rose late and went to church for the first time in all too long. After dinner I wandered over to the library and checked out a volume of Kiplings poems. I really like his stuff, particularly right now. He understood the thoughts & experiences of servicemen perfectly. Always enjoy reading "Tomlinson" again, and that scornful line - "there's sore decline in Adam's line if this be spawn of earth."
