C. S. welfare room located on the second floor of the San Carlos. He & I hit some golf balls in the afternoon - both thoroughly disgusted with our inability to hit them straight & true. Read several articles in the Sat. Eve Post after supper. The weather men missed on their prediction for it didn't rain at any time all day long. Thursday - April 9. Flying secured at noon today - the rain predicted yesterday arrived today. Slept a little this afternoon, and wrote several letters. Borrowed the "Last Puritan" by Santayana from the library this evening. Have read about fifty pages and find it exceptionally good. Believe that I shall reading more now than at any time for the past 7 or 8 years. Am getting fed up with keeping this irony. It involves tedious, monotony and is evidence of personal vanity, I'm afraid. It would be much better to record what I do and think in my correspondence to others, then only that would be saved which merited it. However, since the
