Saving...
I would get in ok, but unhappily the selection was determined entirely by lottery and I wasn't among those pulled out of the hat. Felt quite disappointed at the time, but now don't regret it at all. If the Marines are getting their men by lottery rather than merit that branch of the service loses most of its appeal for me. Drove out to Ellyson field after the meeting & checked in to squadron two. Friday - June 5 Listened to several short lectures, had a cockpit checkout in an SNV & an OS2U in the morning & then went out to the skeet range in the afternoon. At the beginning my shooting was no better than ever, but toward the end of it improved. Believe that I am beginning to get the word. Saturday - June 6 Stood for personnel inspection in whites at 7:30 AM. Nothing is more obnoxious & tiresome to me - I loathe them. Finally got my first instruction
