Tues - June 23 My orders didn't come in today either so Garton, Bird, & Wright, who were going to ride down with me, went on ahead on the train. Wrote a letter or two, lolled on the beach, took my blues into Simpson & Co to be converted. Also ordered the rest of my uniforms from this same outfit, in anticipation of the day of my commission. Now feel completely mortgaged. Selling gov't uniforms is not a business but a racket. Wed - June 24 At last my orders arrived, but I still won't get out till Friday - the station says Tues. & Fridays are the only two departure dates. Haugebak finished up yesterday and is going to ride down with me, also a kid by the name of Carlson from Philadelphia. Pettit & I went to see a show, The Invaders, in town this afternoon. Not too sharp. Picked up a biography of Mr. Churchill just recently written by Philip Guedalla. Read it right straight through and
