Saving...
Mon - June 29 Up late for a fine breakfast in the hotel dining room right next to the ocean. Spent the next hour & half writing a long letter home. We all went to a show in the late afternoon & another that night. The first, "This Gun for Hire" was only fair, the second, "Tortilla Flat" was pretty darn good. Much sobered to hear the news that Matruh had probably fallen to the Axis. Things are really going badly for the Allies in Lybia. To lose all there, would be a terrible blow. Checked in at the air station about 9:30. Haugebak & I are rooming together which is fine. Tuesday - June 30 Began the usual routine necessary to check in at all Naval stations. Ran into a couple of sailors from Iowa who recognized me, called me by name, saying they were glad to see me aboard, etc. Such incidents serve as morale boosters. Wrote a couple of letters in the evening.
