Liberty for different groups of men comes every eighth day. Haugebak & I are in liberty section six & have from secure today until 9:30 tomorrow night. We left the station about six oclock. Were delayed on the way in by a practice air raid drill. Registered at the Patrician Hotel in Miami beach, got a bite to eat (poor) & went to a show (poor). Haven't been able to find a good place to eat around here yet. Saturday - July 4 Independence Day! - current events bring its glory into sharp relief. Allied victory in this war will mark an important milestone in world independence from tyranny. Slept late, went town to the beach behind the hotel for an hour or so. Sat in the sun in lazy reverie (wishing Bob were also here) & then had a little breakfast served to us. After showering I bought three magazines - old standys - Time, Life & Sat. Eve Post.
