Saving...
Sat - Aug 15 Had the duty today as mate of the deck, a boring, useless, thankless job. Am getting so tired of this training life I can hardly stand it. Just before bed time I dropped down to Bob's room & helped him work on a terrifically big box of cookies, candy & nuts he received from Elsie. Sun - Aug 16 Last shot at camera gunnery - beam runs - kind of a poor exhibition all the way around - then in the afternoon 3 hrs of uninteresting, dull, senseless ground school - ugh! Mon - Aug 17 Two hours of instruction in combat, ie, dogfighting - quite a bit of fun - did pretty well. Allied cause is looking a little better now. The Russians are stiffening, particularly around Stalingrad, & the Solomon Islands engagement appears to be a victory for the United Nations thus far.
