Saving...
such a wild ride in my life. We were fortunate not to get pinched. We were exceeding the speed limit by far, running the lights, & everything else. Happily, we sneaked in just under the wire. Tuesday, Dec. 16. Ken went up for his 1st period of actual flight instruction today. He came back thoroughly enthused and feeling that he could master the art of flying alright. Two other boys in my section also were up today. I felt just a bit left-out. It was a feeling similar to that when everybody gets to scrimmage except you. You champ at the bit, anxious for a chance to show your stuff. This afternoon a medium sized Navy flying boat sailed in for refueling. It was a beautiful ship and gave me a very definite thrill. How I hope that one of these days I can qualify to fly such planes. Several enlisted men rushed out to help the pilots out of their gear and to carry in their duffel bags. Half the base personnel crowded around to see the ship & the pilots. It reminded me for all the world of the way red caps & interested fans
