He explained they weren't far off, but were just a little "thin"; they needed a little more "meat" & punch. He did, however, enclose a token payment of $2.50 and encouraged me to try again. Frankly, I thought what I had sent in was quite printable. I don't know yet whether I shall try again. It shouldn't be too hard to write a little more seriously, but I have so little time when I can type that I don't know whether it is worth it. Saturday, Dec. 20 For two weeks I did everything around here but fly. The highest I ever got into the air was a top bunk. But today, happy date, I had my first hour of instruction. For my first experience in handling a plane I think I got along pretty well. We did 90, 180, & 360º turns, S turns along a road, climbing & descending spirals - just simple maneuvers, but nonetheless, requiring close attention for proper execution. My instructor's name is Thatcher (Lt. J.G.). He seems to be a mighty fine fellow. Thus far
