then went back to the base. It has been interesting to note the reaction of the movie audiences when the U.S. flag or service men appear in the newsreels. Spontaneous and prolonged applause always is given now that war has been declared. A shot of Churchill & Roosevelt received the same approbation. Old Winnie has done a fine job of selling himself - and England - to the American people. Thursday - Jan. 1st, 1942 New Years Day 1942 - it dawned cold and blustery, increasing in severity throughout the day. Such weather is prophetic of the times, I fear. The year 1942 will be a critical period for the democracies. Wishful thinking, unfounded optimism won't meet the test. Individually and collectively we must face the future with grim determination and courageous staying power born of a confident faith in God and in the destiny of freedom loving nations. Ours must be a daily resolve to fight through to complete victory whatever the sacrifice must needs be:
