Scrubbed woodwork, swabbed floors, and polished lockers for two hours this afternoon. Must confess that such drudgery dims for the moment a man's enthusiasm for the service. Kauffman of the Star (K.C. Mo) interviewed me for five minutes over their radio station at 10:30 P.M. Col. Peters gave me a special liberty until 11:30 P.M. It was good to get out for an up-town meal with all the trimmings. An enlisted man by the name of Brostrom gave us an hour talk on Navy personnel which developed into a pep talk of the highest calibre. It was enthusiastically and well presented. What a joy it is to hear a man who truly loves his service exhort others to imbibe of the same spirit. He pointed out that we students are to become officers and urged us to realize right now what obligations and responsibilities such a position entails.
