He expressed my sentiments exactly - but I would add this rule for becoming a good officer. You shouldn't ask your men to do what you won't do yourself. Where there is a dirty or dangerous job to be done a good leader is the first to volunteer. Saturday - Jan 10 My ninth and last hour of dual instruction has now been finished. It was a good hour - even Bergen said very little. On Monday I shall check - and then solo. I am not perturbed - tests of all kinds should be viewed as opportunities to prove your merit, not as bugaboos to be avoided. Several of the boys in my section have already soloed; several more will get their check on Mon. & Tues. Our small group remains intact except for one man, Stafford, who washed a couple of days ago. It is a sad day for those who can't make the grade, who are told they don't have an aptitude
