of party affiliation. Whether Roosevelt is a big enough man to do this, I don't know. He seems to have unconquerable aversion toward those who have opposed him. I'm afraid he carrys many petty prejudices, and I know he protects those of his political family at the expense of the most efficient results. He sure has sloughed off Willkie unpardonably. Wonder if Singapore can hold out? Each day finds this vital base in greater danger. How much, much tougher it will be to win this war if the Japs manage to take it. I rather think that some how or another it will hold out. Australia must be praying and hoping that the little yellow men will be halted short of Singapore. For years the people of that vast, empty continent have feared an invasion by the teeming millions grubbing out a living just above them. Two men of section 50 have now been washed - Stafford & Perkins. Westbrook and Ledbetter are hanging in the balance. They will find out today whether they make it.
