ate with gusto and was as appreciative in my remarks as I knew how. Have I said that she, Merle, is very charming and that I enjoy her accompany much? Almost was late getting back to the base. I lingered a little longer than I should have and in my haste on the way back took a wrong road. Finally, careened up to the gate with only a minute or two to spare. Bob will be back up for a check tomorrow, and only after 5 hours of instruction. He evidently has done quite well. Things continue to look worse around Singapore. Surely the Allies will begin to stem the Japanese advance soon. I wonder what really is going on inside Germany. Rumors are rife and the Russians continue to kick them around on the Eastern front. Spring will bring strenuous and bitter action on all fronts.
