Tuesday - Jan 27 My radio still was not very sharp today, and our final test is tomorrow. Hope I have it when the chips are down. Passed my final check with Lt. Kraft in a pretty satisfactory manner. This terminates my flight training here at Fairfax. In the eight weeks that I have been here I had seven hours of instruction under Lt. (j.g.) Thatcher, two hours of instruction and a tenth hour check under Lt. Bergen, a second check by Lt. (j.g.) Jenkins, three hours of solo followed by an hour and a half check by Bergen, 4 more hours of solo, another 1 1/2hr check by Bergen, then 5 hours of solo, and a final check by Lt. Kraft. It has been fun and as a whole things went quite smoothly although not without a tense moment or two. The completion of this first step in my endeavour to become a Navy pilot gives me much satisfaction and happiness. Tomorrow we have our final in math, as well as radio. I
