Wednesday, Jan. 28 We had our final in radio and math today. I took 9.8 on a 10 word test in the former and received a 4.0 in the latter. Quite satisfactory, I guess, but a little disappointed that I didn't get 10 wpm solid in radio. Sections 49 & 50 were conducted through the North American bomber plant across the road late this afternoon. We found it to be a building covering 27 acres with almost no partitions. They evidently haven't gotten under weigh in earnest yet, probably due to lack of raw materials. In any event there didn't seem to be much activity. It was in complete contrast, for instance, to the picture of interminable industry presented by the Ford plant in Detroit when I visited it a few years ago. There were only about 5 bombers that looked anywhere near completion. Gearing American industry to war production is a slow and enormous task. Most of section 50 took off for home tonight. Westbrook is still around
