Mo. where we had supper at Davidsons cafe. We took #60 out of there, hitting #63 at Willow Springs. About 9:30 or 10 oclock we ran into 50 or 60 miles of gravel road in the state of Arkansas. Now, on the map, it looked to be a pretty decent road, it was a state highway, etc, but, evidently, a gravel road in Arkansas isn't the same thing as in Iowa. Why this road was nothing but a wagon trail, full of sharp curves, narrow bridges, chuck holes, boulders, steep hills, etc. It was a horrible road - and lonely. We hardly saw a house or a light all the time we were on it. I thought my poor car was going to fall apart. Certainly, it took a beating. The next morning I discovered the cause of the hissing sound made every time I stepped on the accelerator - the air filter had been jarred loose from the top of the carburetor - truly a rough road. At last we hit pavement again and could pour in the coal. Around twelve oclock we hit Jonesboro, Ark. where we decided to stay all night. Man was I sleepy,
