having had only three hours sleep the night before. We got a tourist cabin with two big double beds in it for $2.50, and although Pettit weighted down one side of the bed so badly that I was lying on a side hill, I slept like a log. Wednesday - Feb. 4 It was not very easy to get up this morning. It was raining outside, and the bed was oh, so comfortable. We finally made it about 8:30, however. None of us bothered to shave, nor did we stop for breafast. We just hightailed it for Memphis, Tenn. right off the bat. Can't say that I think much of the state of Arkansas, at least what I saw of it this morning - poorly surfaced and poorly marked roads, swamps and clay gullies galore, sterile looking land, small one or two room unpainted clapboard houses, lots of mules, rickety fences, and most of the people look like hungry coon hounds. Crossed the Miss. R. into Memphis before noon. Didn't linger long - but
