Saving...
Sunday - Feb. 8. We were permitted to sleep until 9:30 A.M. - very welcome to all of us. Couldn't get off the base for church so wrote a few letters and looked up a bunch of definitions for navigation terms. About 10:30 A.M. some guy phoned saying he was Cap't Johnson from Iowa and that he would look me up, etc. Have only a vague idea who it is but if he knows his way around New Orleans I'll be glad to see him - when & if we ever get off this base. A bunch (50 or so) sailors came aboard last night. Most of them are young fellows fresh out of boot camp at Great Lakes, Ill. It turned out that most of them are from around Iowa - many of them recognizing me and enthusiastically stepping up to say. Was glad to see all of them. Signed up for my cadet uniform tonight. Am having it tailor made to insure a decent fit even though it will cost a little more. Haven't seen a paper for several days - am losing out on the news - hope the Allies are still holding fast in the S. Pac.
