in their rooms - all wrong - but I'm afraid a bit typical of men hastily thrown into position of some responsibility. Each day I more fully realize what a terrific job it is to get this country on a full time war basis. The Navy is expanding so rapidly that each man - officers & men alike - have so much to do in such a short while that nobody does a really good job & everyone is trying to pass the buck in order to relieve his own load a little. It is a difficult situation - takes an even temperament & then some to remain civil to everyone. Played basketball in the evening - or rather practised - at Loyola gym. This guy Radabaugh put on a drinking feat I have rarely seen equalled. Thursday - Feb. 12. Regular routine again today. Radio went a little better - I passed the Navigation check out quite satisfactorily. Those who have cadet uniforms (blues) are going to be given liberty this Sat. night. I don't have mine, but I think I have a deal fixed up so I can get out. If H. Bremer will just stay over in New
