get started on Mon. A little better than half of our class has been designated to skip the customary two weeks indoctrinational period and start immediately on ground school. I'm not too sure it is a good idea, but in any event I had no choice, and I will get out of the two hr. drill period each day. Ken I played some basketball in the afternoon with several other students. Just a makeshift game on an outside court but a lot of fun & good exercise. After supper we attended the movie. It was a wild west affair called "Texas." Might have been good in Adel 15 years ago but not so much to my liking now. Sunday - Feb 22 Washington's birthday and the Sabbath didn't keep the planes on the ground today - they were hard at it all day. I remember reading a letter that Washington wrote his mother right after his first Revolutionary War battle in which he said, "I have heard the whistle of bullets past my ears & I have found it not unpleasant."
