Monday - Feb. 23 It was raining when we got up this morning and has been hard at it ever since. As a matter of fact it has rained a good deal all the time that we have been in the south. There has been more than a little chilly weather, also - temperature of 35° during the night has not been uncommon either here or at New Orleans. Nonetheless, the grass is green and the countryside verdant, quite in contrast with the north at this time. We started ground school this morning, and it bids to be intensely interesting. For the most part our study will be concerned with engines, a field which was not in my college curriculum at all. How glad I am of this opportunity to fill that void in my education - at least to a degree. I believe I am more interested in learning than at any other time of my life. I would so much like to speak a couple of foreign languages, take more math & physics, be more conversant with good literature & history. What a pity it is that a man doesn't make better use of his time when
