64 Center Ala. Nov 11" 1865 Saturday A great many Widow Ladies are Coming in to take the Amnesty Oath, as they seem to think they are not Secure in their rights of Property untill they are pardoned. I found one young Lady that during the war had rode 35 miles in 5 hours to inform a Federal force of the Approach of Confederate Troops to cut theirs off She Succeded & Saved the party, and yet this Girl had come in to take the Oath. I gave Her the paper, but did not require an Oath when She had never violated Her good Faith to Her Govt. (Vertically, at left:-) Miss Jane Holcomb
