A Receipt for Green Paint
Take eighteen pound of the best Roman Vitriol and thirteen pound of Whiting boil these together in a Brass Pan in eighteen Gallons of Water for three hours stirring it all the while to prevent its burning to the bottom of the Pan or boiling over either of which would hurt the colour; when it has fairly boil'd three hours take the fire from under it and ladle it into different Tubs to cool when near cold the paint will settle to the bottom then pour off the Water as near as you can and put as much clear cold Water this must be repeated three times a day for two days; then put the powder into earthen dishes and dry it in the Sun for a Month or six Weeks
