3 [left margin] 349 To make Fire - balls which will save Coal and keep a clear Fire - Fire, or kindling - balls should be composed of equal parts of Coal, charcoal & Clay the two former must be reduced to fine powder well mixed and kneaded together with the Clay moistened with water and then formed in Balls of the size of Hens - Eggs and thoroughly dried - they may be used with great advantage instead of wood; then kindling Balls may be made so inflammable as to take fire in an instant and with the smallest spark by dipping them in a strong solution of Nitre another drying then again, they well neither be expensive unliable to be spoiled by long keeping. Fire Balls of the size of Goose - Eggs composed of Coal & charcoal inpowder mixed up with a due proportion of wet Clay and well dried would make a much more cleanly and in all reports a pleasanter Fire than can be made with crude Coal and would not be sure expensive fuel [left margin] 190 Easy method to prevent Moths destroying Furs or Woollen Sprinkle the Furs or Woolen Stuffs as well as the drawers or Boxes in which they are kept with Spirits of Turpentine the unpleasant scent of which will speedily evaporate on exposure of the Stuffs to the Air. Some persons place sheets of paper moistened with Spirits of Turpentine over under or between pieces of Cloth &c and find it a very effectual method.
