4 [left margin] 190- Excellent composition to take out Stains or Grease spots from Silk Cotton or Woollen To Two ounces of Spirits of Wine add one ounce of French Chalk and five ounces of Tobacco pipe Clay both in fine powder, make this mixture into rolls about the size & length of a Finger and let them dry - This Composition is to be applied rubbing on the Spot either dry or wet and afterwards brushing the part therewith rubbed - [left margin] 1871? To make Courtplaster for Cuts &c Take of Isinglass half an ounce; of Turlingtons (or Treac) Balsam, one drachm; melt the Isinglass in one ounce of Water and boil the solution till a great part of the Water is consumed; then add gradually to it the Balsam stirring them well together. After the mixture has continued a short time on the fire, take the vessel off and spread the intended silk with it, whilst it is yet fluid with heat using a brush for spreading it - [left margin] '97 Cock roaches are destroyed by the smoke of Charcoal Fleas to drive away - [left margin] 203 Fumigating with Brimstone, or the fresh leaves of Pennyroyal seated in a Bag, & laid on the Bed will have the effect of destroying all the Fleas which may be there in (the bed) [left margin] 187 A Cure for Burns A little spirits of Turpentine made about milk warm, applied to each burn will mitigate the pain, if not wholly remove it -
