Mrs Cheales - Receipts for Hooping Cough ( used with gt. success in in Braceboro in Autumn of 1831 -) 3 Scruples Salt of Tartar 30 Grains Cochineal 6 ounces Cold water sweetened with brown sugar A tea spoonful 3 or 4 times a day at regular intervals A tea spoonful of Ipecacuanha wine to be given twice a week - oftener if the patient be much oppressed - Another remedy 4 grains Alum 1 ounce water with a little loaf sugar to be given in three doses This is for a child 18 months old an additional grain for every half year after that age Another remedy for a child of 8 years of age 2 grains Extract of Henbane 1/2 grain Ipecacuanha to be taken three times a day Cough Mixture Infant under 2 months old dram Gum Arabic pounded dram Sugar Ounce and half boiling Water Oxymel of Squills 1 dram. A Teaspoonful to be given 3 oz 4 times a day- Made for little Edmund Mar 26th 1869
