We went through where the Rebs quartered last winter their log houses looked quite nice. We passed through Gainesville & Hay Market within three miles of the Gap. I saw Mathias Greely you tell George he had been up to the gap with about 100 more & drove the pickets in exchanged Shots with them but no one was hurt. We are now after the Rebs & I hope we will get some of them. if I do so I will send you some of his hair there is fighting 15 miles from here & I wish it was here so I could help We can hear the Cannon when they fire it is said it is Burnslde & we are here to head the Rebs from going through the Gap. they think the Rebs wont come here now but we Shall go on after them I hope.
