Camp near Fairfax Saturday Dec 6th,, a,,d,, , 1862 Dear parents, brothers, sisters, comrades, friends. School mates, Sweet hearts, neighbors and gentlemen and Ladies. It is without fear of your receivin an unwelcome letter from me that I attempt to write. This day finds me this side of the grave & enjoying the blessings of health, but not liberty for no Soldier has his liberty neither did I expect I Should. (Vertically down, from top right:-) Tell Frank to be a good boy and keep his nose clean for me Write how the draft gets along. how and what George Greely is doing I do not see why Father does not write write something about Orly & Lib Tell all of the boys to write to me I wish you would send me a paper.
