start and by the way you had better put off going a few days if he does not get there before the time you had set to start. I am surprised to hear of you being able to do as much work as you do and I am fearful that if some of the powers that be here would see you over the washtub or riding over the rough roads to LaFayette they would think that I had been slightly streaching matters a little for not many weeks since I tried very hard to get a leave of absence on the ground that you was in a very bad condition etc. etc. but it was no go for I could get no leave of absence on that or any other grounds so I have give up and quit trying. Your letter of the 9th come to hand a bout a week since and the one of the 17th come today. Capt McCutcheon resigned on the plea of ill health but I guess the main thing that ailed him was that he wanted to go home. It is not known certain who will take his place but I presume it will be Lieut. Bedford as he is the 1st Lieut of the company. He has been gone some time and has had a very severe time with the Doctors the cause of which was he had been on Smoky. Lieut Jones is in Delphi and had not got well of his wound when last heard from but is expected back soon. Bedford come back today but is not well and I do not know whether I will be relieved from the company for some days or not. I received a letter from Ferman today containing 4 sheets of letter paper which was quite a surprise to me for his letters are generally short. It was written the 2nd inst. and was mostly on political subjects and not much news of a local nature. John Harnell has the varioloid and was sent to the Post Hospital yesterday. He has not been with the company since last August until about a week since he come up. He has been on duty in the Hospital in Nashville all winter and was exposed to the Small Pox just before he left and as he had been
